The Philippines is an archipelago in Southeast Asia. The nation consists of 7,107 islands located between the Philippine Sea and the South China Sea, east of Vietnam, and north of Sabah and Borneo. Combine all its beaches it forms one of the world's longest coastlines. It would take about 2 to 3 decades to visit and experience every island.

As a shortcut: The best places to visit are the beach islands of Boracay, Malapascua, Bohol and the rice terraces around Banaue on northern Luzon. With spare time, visit the Bacuit Bay Archipelago around El Nido on Palawan and admire the beautiful seascape. You'll likely also come through Manila, capital and gateway city to the Philippines. However, there isn't much to see there.

All of these top highlights are included in our recommended itinerary for 2 weeks+ in the Philippines.

Since Spanish colonial times, the country is considered to be Asia's largest Catholic country. Over a hundred ethnic groups, a mixture of foreign influences and a fusion of culture and arts have enhanced the uniqueness of the Filipino identity and the wonder that is the Philippines.

Boracay is Southeast Asia's nicest beach - and the best stretch is south of Boat Station 3.  <span style='white-space:nowrap;'><img src='http://www.guidegecko.de/images/spyglass1.png' align='texttop' /> Click to enlarge</span>
