The Mersing Jetty is located next to the Plaza R&R. If by any chance your bus stops at the Mersing bus terminal instead of the Plaza R&R (rare but it happens), it is a few minutes' walk from the bus station. Also keep in mind that buses depart from the Plaza R&R more frequently than they do from the bus terminal.

You can buy tickets from the Mersing Jetty to Pulau Tioman (RM70, 2 way), Pulau Besar (RM90, 2 way), Pulau Rawa and Pulau Pemanggil.

Ferries to Tioman are operated by Bluewater and the relatively new Tioman XL ferry services. The latter even have a website and facebook page, and it looks like they are answering schedule related questions there (see the resources section on this page for links).

In general, both companies depart from Mersing to Tioman at a regular basis from 7:30AM to 4:30PM, but are dependant on tide and weather conditions. The best way to go about this is to just show up early and check with the counter staff, or call one of the friendly agents at +60 19 7381810 or +60 7 7991 937 to enquire about the exact departure times - but speak slowly and be patient.

Ferries to the other three islands (Besar, Rawa, Pemanggil) depart at a lower frequency, and on some days - especially during low peak season - there are no ferries at all, so be prepared to spend at least a night in Mersing if you're headed to one of these lesser-known islands.

As it is the most popular destination, the jetty is littered with companies selling holiday packages for travellers headed to Tioman. Below the huge blue and white Seafarest sign at Mersing Jetty is a travel agent for D'Coconut Resort at Pulau Besar, but this writer never saw it open. Perhaps you might have better luck, because Seafarest can apparently arrange for a day trip up to Pulau Besar.

Between the monsoon months of October and February, ferries and boats run much less frequently.

From Mersing Bus & Taxi Terminal, walk straight down Jln Abu Bakar. You will pass two roundabouts so make sure you take the right roads. Always remember to walk parallel to the Mersing River or Sungei Mersing.
